The Mysterious Bike

The Mysterious Bike 1

The Mysterious Bike

After lunch, to our amazement we discovered a blue, mysterious, shiny bike, leaning against the turquoise wooden wall in the corner of our classroom. The bike was abandoned by a mean, scary, angry pirate with a beard as dirty as a trashcan.

We often think pirates travel on ships, however it is not that well known that pirates mostly travel on bicycles. Unfortunately, they can’t take them on their ships because they need as much space for their bounty as they can! So the sad pirate left his treasured bike in our classroom, hoping that we will look after it.

Choosing to leave his precious bike in our class was due to the fact that he is travelling from Melbourne Park to a treasure island in the Caribbean. On his return, we hope for a share of his stolen loot as we want to buy a jacuzzi, a disco ball, a chocolate fountain, a PS4, an Xbox 360 and a trampoline. We will definitely care for his bike!

This week at Brook Street it is STEM week.

In Year 3 we have started the week by looking at TECHNOLOGY. We have designed and made our own sunglasses cases, which we created with felt. We used our sewing skills to make patterns and stitch the front and back together.

Sunglasses case criteria:

-Able to clean our sunglasses

-Correct size for sunglasses

-Decoration (Caribbean)

-Able to open and close the case

-Suitable material

Do you think we have met the criteria for our sunglasses cases?

Can you see the Caribbean influences in our designs?

This week in maths we have been measuring, comparing, adding and subtracting volumes, capacities and masses.

In Science we have been learning about light. To develop our understanding we made our own shadow puppet theatre and performed to the whole school. We designed and made the puppets and the background in small groups. In Science we have been learning about light.
