Welcome to Year 1!
I hope you have had a brilliant first week in year 1! I have really enjoyed getting to know you all, finding out what you can remember from Reception and starting some new work too.
This week we have been learning about the artist Piet Mondrian. We discovered that he painted abstract art, which means he didn't paint objects or people, he used straight lines and shapes instead. We also learned that he also only used three colours; red, blue and yellow, which are all primary colours. We practised mixing colours, making colour wheels and used Mondrian's work to inspire our own artwork. There are some pictures of our fantastic work below!
Alongside our artwork we have practised our phonics and maths skills to see what we can remember from Reception and in English we have learned how to use adjectives to make our writing more exciting and descriptive.
Starting next week (W/C 14th September) we will be doing PE every Wednesday afternoon. Please bring your PE kit into school and leave it on your peg; we will send it home at the end of half term. If your child has earrings they need to be removed before school and long hair needs to be tied up please.
We will also be starting to learn about materials and their properties in Science. I wonder how many materials you can name?
